The story of our Baroque Tray

When Tonia was a young student at Ilam Art School in Canterbury, she came across a weekend market in Cathedral Square full of treasures.
As well as buying a beautiful vintage brocade ball gown, she purchased this antique embossed artwork with high ornamentation and a central fleur de lis design.

The dress is long gone, but the art piece was fortunately framed and kept safe, The Baroque design now takes on new life as the beautiful ornate texture used in our ceramic trays.

A little bit about the Baroque style

An early 17th century style, 'all things Baroque' are known for lavish and highly decorated surfaces, with shapes and forms, such as scrolls of foliage, curved and spiraled to create a sense of movement,

The French Baroque style may look like a riot of details and decorative elements, but it distinguishes itself with an underlying focus on symmetry and elegance informed by French Classicism -think the opulence and design of the Palace of Versailles in Paris!
